About the Horses

Horses hold a place in nearly every Texas landscape - pastured quarter horses along ranch roads, working stock on the coastal prairies, and the occasional band grazing a beachside paddock with Gulf surf behind them. Photographed in good light, they bring the same rewards as wildlife: expression, motion, and country that suits them.

The horses in these frames were photographed in passing on Texas travels - part of the scenery of a state where ranching still shapes the view, and where a sea-breeze mane at golden hour is reason enough to stop the truck.
