About the Blue-winged Warbler

A golden-yellow warbler with blue-gray wings, two white wingbars and a crisp black line through the eye, its buzzy "bee-buzz" song a signature of shrubby old fields in the East. In Texas it is mainly a migrant, working brushy edges and often hanging upside down to probe dead-leaf clusters. Blue-winged Warblers hybridize extensively with Golden-winged Warblers where their ranges meet, producing the famous "Brewster's" and "Lawrence's" hybrid types - a hybrid zone that has been studied for over a century.
